Assalamualaykum,
My name is Abdullah, and I have a brother Ahmed who joined me in fasting this Ramadan. At the end of the first day as our stomachs grumbled and our mouths watered, and Ahmed began moaning about how hungry he was! I told him that I was hungry too and that we just have to be patient, especially since there are thousands of children across the globe who don’t have any food to start or end their day with!
We both decided that instead of thinking about food! We better put our hunger into better use, and remembered the hadeeth
“The one who cares for (looks after) a widow or a poor person is like a person performing Jihad in the cause of Allah, or like the one who fasts all day and stands in prayer all night”.
We thought, what if we could use this month to earn extra rewards by helping those not as lucky as us!
So we decided to have a children’s meeting with our cousins, and Ahmed said: “Yes I don’t like to think of children starving”.
Our cousin Saraah said: “Allah will love me more for feeding someone in Ramadan”.
Her younger sister Maryam said: “I like my food and don’t want the other children to be sad!”
And our little sister Khadija, and our little cousins, Humayrah and Aisha collectively expressed: “We wanna feed the kidz too!”
This resulted in team Ihsaan being born! And since we are children in our school years, or close to it!
Team Ihsan has decided to work with a charity called Charity Right to raise funds to provide food for schoolchildren in Sudan! And we have committed to raise at least £7000 to feed children ALL YEAR ROUND!
We know very well that children need mental and physical strength whilst they study, but many families in areas of poverty struggle to feed themselves. Millions of young people are not enrolled in school because their first priority needs to be finding food, instead. When Charity Right provide free school meals in an area, those schools report an increase in enrollment rates and attendance. Providing food increases education rates, and those children then have a better chance of working their way out of poverty.
It costs £10 to feed a child for a full month! It costs £120 to feed one child for an entire year.
All of us together want to try and raise as much money as we can this Ramadan so we can feed as many people as we can.
Please help us help our brothers and sisters with your Zakah and Sadaqah!
