How we respect privacy when we deal with personal information collected by our organisation

Introduction and General Terms

Charity Right, and the people we seek to help, are dependent on the generosity of our supporters as well as the goodwill and trust of the public. We are therefore committed to protecting any personal information we obtain about you, whether you are just visiting our website or are a financial supporter, volunteer, or campaigner. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect and how we use it.

We are committed to safeguarding your personal information. Whenever you provide such information, we are legally obliged to use your information in line with all laws concerning the protection of personal information, including the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Privacy & Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003.

How We Use Your Data

We will only use your data in a manner that is appropriate considering the basis on which that data was collected, as set out in the table at the top of this policy.

For example, we may use your personal information to:

  1. reply to enquiries you send to us;
  2. handle donations or other transactions that you initiate;
  3. where you have specifically agreed to this, send you marketing communications by email relating to our work which we think may be of interest to you.

  5. for "service administration purposes", which means that we may contact you for reasons related to donations you have made such as your tax status with regard to Gift Aid, or online content you have signed up for
  6. to analyze and improve the activities and content offered by our website to provide you with the most user-friendly navigation experience

We will only contact you for marketing purposes where you have provided us with freely given consent to do so.

How Long We Keep Your Data

We take the principles of data minimisation and removal seriously and have internal policies in place to ensure that we only ever ask for the minimum amount of data for the associated purpose and delete that data promptly once it is no longer required.

Where data is collected on the basis of consent, we will seek renewal of consent at least every three years.

Sharing Your Information

Please be assured that we will not, under any circumstances, share your data with anyone for marketing purposes and you will not receive offers from other companies or organizations as a result of giving your details to us.

We may need to share limited information with our service providers who help us to prepare and send you our communications or process your donations and other responses. However, we will not allow these organizations to use your data for their own purposes and will take care to ensure that they keep your data secure.

When we share your data

We will only pass your data to third parties in the following circumstances:

  • you have provided your explicit consent for us to pass data to a named third party;
  • we are using a third party purely for the purposes of processing data on our behalf and we have in place a data processing agreement with that third party that fulfils our legal obligations in relation to the use of third party data processors; or
  • we are required by law to share your data.

In addition, we will only pass data to third parties outside of the EU where appropriate safeguards are in place as defined by Article 46 of the General Data Protection Regulation.

Access To Information

In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 you have the right to access any information that we hold relating to you. (We charge £10 for information requests and require you to prove your identity with two pieces of approved identification)

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that is downloaded on to your computer when you visit a website.
